Massey shooting: Paramedics recall tending to injured people Katie Todd

Paramedics have described arriving at a chaotic scene in Auckland last June, after the shooting of two police officers who had been carrying out a routine traffic stop.
Eli Epiha appeared in the High Court in Auckland, where he has pleaded guilty to murdering constable Matthew Hunt and dangerous driving causing injury.
He also admits shooting Hunt s colleague David Goldfinch, but denies it was attempted murder.
Epiha is on trial before Justice Venning and a jury.
This morning St John officer Joanne Stewart recounted finding Goldfinch lying on the ground on Reynella Drive in Massey, with a graze on his hip and two jagged looking puncture wounds on his leg.

A paramedic who was among the first to help injured Constable David Goldfinch last year testified that she waited with him in the ambulance outside the hospital, then took him in a different entrance so he wouldn t see emergency department staff trying in vain to save his partner s life.
St John emergency medical technician Joanne Stuart told jurors at the trial of Epi Bob Sauni Epiha, who is charged with the attempted murder of Goldfinch, that she was called to quite a chaotic scene in West Auckland on the morning of June 19, 2020.

Meanwhile, a second officer who was shot in the leg and seriously injured can today be named as David Goldfinch.
RNZ can reveal 25-year-old Eli Epiha pleaded guilty to Hunt s murder and dangerous driving last Wednesday.
A court order meant the plea could not be reported until now.
Epiha denies the attempted murder of Goldfinch and he is on a trial before a jury of seven men and five women in the High Court in Auckland.
Justice Venning told the jury that they must not assume because he was guilty of murdering Hunt, that he was automatically guilty on the attempted murder

The High Court in Auckland is hearing the trial of Eli Epiha - who admits he shot Hunt in June last year and injured a member of the public.
But the 25-year-old has pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder officer David Goldfinch - who was shot in the leg.

He says the defence s position is . it s not a black and white case.
He says Hunt s lawyers have indicated their argument is Hunt did pull the trigger. but didn t mean to kill anyone.
