The Charter calls for organisations to work with pension providers to green retirement investments
IKEA, Brewdog, Octopus Group, EY, and Ecotricity among firms signing up to new charter calling for a net zero pensions industry
More than 50 organisations including IKEA, Ecotricity, Triodos, and Good Energy have signed up to a new Green Pension Charter, which calls for retirement savings to be invested in line with the UK s 2050 net zero emissions target.
Spearheaded by the Make My Money Matter (MMMM) campaign in conjunction with climate group Count Us In, the charter commits signatories to work with their pension provider and scheme trustees to secure a green pension and support net zero initiatives in the lead up to the COP26 Climate Summit in November.
(Echo, 14th May) depressing reading. In particular the statement quoted from environment portfolio holder, Cllr Ray Bryan warning that the estimated total £130m cost of climate change policies for Dorset Council could result in a five per cent increase in council tax. This is complete nonsense. Two years after Dorset Council declared a climate and ecological emergency it is shocking to realise the council’s main aim is to do nothing. In practice renewable energy costs are plummeting and with only a small amount of motivation it is possible to dramatically reduce Dorset’s CO2 emissions at almost no cost to the council or council tax payers.
