Randy Hazlett, Ontario Progressive Conservative candidate for Nickel Belt, welcomed a recent announcement from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development of funding for a pre-apprenticeship program for 460 workers to learn about rod-working, which is typically used in transit construction.
Through the Ontario Ironworkers District Council, the province is to provide two weeks of in-class training and an eight-week work placement in Sudbury. Those who are successful in completing the program are to be registered and employed as apprentices.
