Actor Abhay Deol on Saturday shared information on his first Disney film Spin, and posted a trailer of the India-centric family comedy. I am aware that most of my audience love me for making edgy, alternative narratives, that challenge the status quo. Which is why this film is all the more special as it is a departure from my own status quo, and catering to a much younger audience. Spin is a Disney film which will go live on their platform for the U.S audiences on August 13. It is a gem of a movie, that will leave you smiling and feeling good. Blessed to be a part of it! When Agam Darshi landed the role of Radha in Deepa Meeta’s Funny Boy, she took great pains to prepare.
The film is based on the acclaimed 1994 semi-autobiographical novel by Sri Lankan-Canadian author Shyam Selvadurai. Partly set against the lead-up to the 1983 anti-Tamil pogrom in Sri Lanka that preceded a brutal 26-year civil war, it’s a coming-of-age tale about a boy from a wealthy Tamil family who explores his sexuality.
“YVR Screen Scene For India is a show of support and a call to action,” said Furminger, who is the host of the YVR Screen Scene Podcast. “I have a lot of family in Mumbai and Delhi. These last few weeks – with every headline about overcrowded hospitals, oxygen shortages, and over- inundated crematoriums, as well as frantic messages in the family WhatsApp group – have left me feeling so powerless. I know I’m not alone in that.
“And so I decided to take that feeling and channel it into doing some good. I reached out to my favourite local South Asian Canadian actors and invited them to participate in the live video event with yours truly – kind of like
