Kristen Clarke, already under fire for her past anti-Semitic writings and opposition to civil rights prosecutions of black defendants, helped persuade a federal appeals court to deauthorize an integral part of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. Clarke and her advocacy group claimed the project was harmful to black residents. Regulators and energy companies objected to the claim before mounting legal costs forced them to shut down.

Pittsylvania NAACP asks DEQ to refer MVP air permit to Air Pollution Control Board

The Pittsylvania County Branch of the NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, passed a resolution March 2 opposing immediate approval of an air permit requested by the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) for its proposed Lambert Compressor Station, currently sited approximately two and a half miles east of Chatham. The group also approved a written comment to DEQ on the draft air permit. The resolution and comment request that Virginiaâs Department of Environmental Quality refer the draft air permit to the citizen Air Pollution Control Board. The referral would allow time for further consideration of air quality issues and concerns regarding environmental justice.
