Hopes that Grays Ath may find home at Ship Lane HOPES that Grays Athletic might be able to make their new home at Ship Lane in Aveley, former home of Thurrock FC, have been given a boost with news that Sport England has now lent its support to the development of the site and a contribution to playing fields elsewhere in Aveley reports Thurrock Nub News. And there has also been some positive movement from Highways England, a statutory consultee on the development which involves creating a car preparation plants on swathes of the existing site currently occupied by youth pitches.

Aveley Lodge residents enjoy festive show from Mercury theatre stars

CARE home residents were treated to a special festive performance by musical stars from the Mercury Theatre. Musicians from the theatre visited Aveley Lodge Residential Care Home, in Abberton Road, Colchester, treating residents to a 45-minute set of traditional and modern Christmas favourites. Residents were even encouraged to join in on the care home s own instruments, with a stage being set up outside for the performers to meet coronavirus regulations. Suzanne Parmenter, PR manager for the home, said: It meant a lot for our residents to have entertainment like this come in and visit. We are extremely proud of the vast and varied activities and entertainment we offer here at Aveley Lodge but due to Covid, external entertainment has been difficult to organise this year particularly when its bad weather.

Fitness firm spreading festive cheer with food donations to charity

A FITNESS boss has been spreading Christmas cheer this year by supporting a homeless charity. Sean Laidlaw, 32, founder of Beyond Limits in Thurrock, has been busy collecting goods to help those in need this Christmas. The former solider, who left the British Army bomb squad to set up his own business, conducted a large donation drive delivering 266kg of food and hygiene products to Friends of Essex and London Homeless. Sean said: “Since leaving the military I have struggled and been helped. I just want to pass it along, whether that be paying for a person in need’s shopping, or giving someone that extra little bit of change when they run short in a shop.
