Sharjah Ruler creates new book distribution company under Emirates Publishers Association

Sharjah: A new book distribution company, operating under the Emirates Publishers Association (EPA), will be formed in accordance with a recent directive issued by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to enable local publishers expand their reach into regional and international markets with reduced operating costs. The newly-formed distribution company will operate from the EPA headquarters situated near Expo Centre Sharjah. EPA welcomed the new directive and emphasised the “positive impact it will have on the national publishing industry”. Senior EPA officials noted the directive reflects Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi’s firm commitment to support the local publishing sector and will ease the financial burden on publishers while also helping standardise and restructure processes to facilitate the expansion and reach of the industry, both locally and regionally.

Sharjah Ruler issues law to reorganise Sharjah Police

Sharjah: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a law reorganising Sharjah Police. The law stipulates that the Sharjah Police Force is a regular civil body, whose executive management is affiliated to the General Command of Sharjah Police. Dr. Sheikh Sultan is its supreme commander. The Sharjah police force is consisting of military-officers, staff-warrant and Civil servants. The force s members are subject to legislation in force in the Emirate . As per the law, the force, which will have its own flag and logo, aims to achieve and maintain public security, public order and public morals, as well as provide reassurance to all members of society in the emirate.

Sharjah wishes workers good health and safety ahead of Labour Day

Sharjah: The Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah (LSDA) sent messages to workers and employers on the occasion of Labour Day, observed globally on May 1, wishing them good health, safety and for the world to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible. LSDA also called for solidarity between employers and workers “to overcome the exceptional circumstances, and turn these challenges into an opportunity, so we can defeat the pandemic”. Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, LSDA chairman, said: “Our celebration of Labour Day is driven by the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to support workers and provide a decent work environment for them as well as the employers in the emirate of Sharjah.”

Sharjah to organise a unique exhibition of books, pamphlets and manuscripts

Sharjah: The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) is organising a unique exhibition of early written material, including books, pamphlets and manuscripts, and a collection of rare artefacts, at its headquarters in Sharjah from April 27 to May 3, 2021. Titled ‘Tales from the East’, and open from 8pm to midnight each day, the exhibition will also enable the public to engage with academic experts to acquire knowledge and gain an insight into the region’s rich cultural past. Eminent history and archaeology experts will lead the cultural sessions and panel discussions during the week-long exhibition to discuss the role of manuscripts in unveiling the scientific and cultural achievements of humankind, and address the importance of its preservation for future generations.

Sharjah Ruler lays foundation stone for Kalba Clock Tower Square

Sharjah: His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Saturday, laid the cornerstone of the Clock Tower Square in Kalba City. The Clock Tower Square is part of the development and tourism projects for public facilities and infrastructure in the region. Upon arrival at the venue, the Ruler of Sharjah was briefed on the construction drilling operations that have been completed at the site, and learnt from Engineer Salah Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Adviser of Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey, about the engineering plans and maps for the square and the clock tower, stressing the need for expediting work to provide all services for visitors to the area.
