Music legends don’t get much greater Aretha Franklin, and the Queen of Soul is the latest huge star to be given the musical biopic treatment.

Playing Aretha is bound to be a daunting task, but Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is as well-equipped as any to take on the role, and recently revealed that she had been handpicked for the part by Franklin herself.
“I know that Aretha was adamant that [her life] be a film. If it’s not a film, it’s nothing. I’m just honoured that she picked me to play her. I mean, who can say that? And again, I would have never done it without her wishes,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
