Vicar of Dibley star Trevor Peacock, who lived in Somerset, has died

The TV star was best known for playing Jim Trott in the comedy series. Trevor Peacock had lived in the Somerset village of East Coker with his second wife Tilly. He has four children, Daniel, Harry, Sally and Maudie. A statement to the PA news agency from his agent on behalf of his family said: Trevor Peacock, actor, writer and songwriter, died aged 89 on the morning of March 8 from a dementia-related illness. He first appeared opposite Dawn French in the BBC sitcom in its debut episode in 1994 and continued to appear in every episode until 2015. He was absent from the recent Christmas special.

Last modified on Wed 10 Mar 2021 10.34 EST Trevor Peacock, the actor and songwriter, who has died aged 89 after suffering from dementia, was best known and much loved for his endearing performance as a bumbling parish councillor, Jim Trott, in The Vicar of Dibley (1994-2007), one of a delightful gallery of village worthies circling, and answering to, Dawn French’s enthusiastic parish priest. Jim’s particular dimness was manifest in an acute inability to say what he meant, prefacing a “Yes” with a string of stuttering “No’s”. This had landed him in deep trouble. He had, for instance, in a history of two marriages, been spliced, by accident, with another man.
