Military service members become US Citizens aboard the USS Midway Museum ahead of 4th of July -

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services welcomed 20 military service members from 10 countries on Friday for a special Independence Day-themed ceremony on board the USS Midway Museum. The eight sailors and 12 Marines originate from the following 10 countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ghana, Honduras, Liberia, Mexico, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago. This ceremony is part of USCIS’ annual Independence Day celebration. They have been doing the ceremony for 15 years aboard the USS Midway Museum. This year, USCIS celebrates the 245th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and our nation’s birthday, by welcoming thousands of new U.S. citizens in more than a hundred Independence Day-themed naturalization ceremonies across the country between June 30 and July 7.

Apt 4 Music offers music classes in Liberty Station -

Apt 4 Music (Aptitude for Music) is a music instructional and production organization focused on providing individuals, families, organizations, and educators from all walks access to the musical arts and education, as well as community outreach and support programs, event productions, and more! They opened in February after a tough year for musicians. Their CEO, Rice Enright, and COO, DJ Villegas, both had to stop doing music gigs and the previous studio they worked at shut down due to the pandemic. For the duo, they are thrilled to be back and offering music classes. They are offering week-long band experiences during the summer break (45 minute classes). They are also working with other businesses in their building at the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center to be able to offer full-day camps to the community, but through coordinated efforts amongst each other, i.e. a child could/would do a 45min music class, then be escorted to the next “artistic experience” at San Diego Craft

Chula Vista Library new deck opens for story time -

The City of Chula Vista recently opened an expansive new deck at its Civic Center Library that overlooks the adjacent Friendship Park. Located on the north side of the library, the 5,000 square foot deck allows visitors a new entrance to the library and easy access to the park. Plans for the deck include events, recreational classes such as Yoga, Aerobics or Mommy and Me fitness activities, art classes, Movies on the Deck, and more. In addition, beginning July 1, the deck will be available to rent for private events; fees are $75 per hour with a two-hour minimum for Chula Vista residents and $150 per hour with a two-hour minimum for non-residents. The deck can accommodate up to 330 people and features beautiful shade sails.

Maritime Museum returns to full capacity -

Maritime Museum of San Diego has reopened their indoor exhibits, below ship deck galleries and the USS Dolphin submarine on June 15th. The Museum is also now open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entrance to all exhibits are included in general admission, with Maritime Museum Bay Boat tours only an additional $10.00 or $15.00 per person. Permanent exhibits found as visitors move from ship to ship include San Diego’s Naval History, Harvesting the Ocean, Age of Steam, Age of Sail, Charting the Sea, Wind and Water Photography, Man-of-War, and Wish You Were Here postcard and photography display. Exhibits reopened include fascinating galleries and maritime artifact and photographic displays found throughout the fleet including aboard the iconic and world’s oldest sailing ship the 1863
