Eleven Matadors earn All-District softball accolades

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Jun 9, 2021 | 8:41 AM Seniors Taylor Springs, Jailey Cardenas, and Mia Cevallos were among the 11 SHS softball players recognized on the 26-5A All-District team for the 2021 season. (Seguin) – Seguin softball players Mia Cevallos, Allison Kubena, and Ashlie Aguilar made the All-District 26-5A First Team to lead a group of 11 Matadors who received post-season recognition in a vote by the district’s head coaches. Cevallos, a senior outfielder, hit .317 with a home run, 15 RBIs, and 18 runs scored this spring. Kubena, a junior outfielder, led the Matadors with 19 RBIs and scored 14 times. Aguilar, a sophomore infielder, posted a .403 batting average, a .479 on-base percentage, 21 runs scored, three doubles, and 15 runs driven in.

Navarro softball sweeps Canyon Lake, advances to area playoffs (Marion) – Navarro found reprieve from the region’s rainy weather and wet field conditions on the artificial turf at Marion High School to sweep Canyon Lake 18-8 and 13-3 in the 4A bi-district softball playoffs on Thursday and Friday. The Panthers started the first game at Canyon Lake on Wednesday, led 4-3 in the fourth inning when play was suspended due to weather, resumed the game in Marion on Thursday, and outscored the Hawks 14-5 the rest of the way to take a 1-0 series lead. Navarro plated three runs in the fourth inning, sixt in the fifth, another in the sixth, and four in the seventh.

Seguin softball looks to knock off top-ranked Leander in bi-district playoffs, series to air on KWED

(Austin) – Seguin looks to shake up the 5A bracket of the UIL softball playoffs right out of the gates with a bi-district upset of No. 1 ranked Leander in a best-of-three series on Thursday and Friday. The entire series will be played at Westlake High School in Austin. Game 1 is Thursday at 6 p.m. Game 2 is Friday at 5 p.m., with Game 3 immediately following if necessary. The Matadors went 15-12 with a 10-6 district record to earn the No. 4 playoff seed in District 26-5A during the regular season. This is Seguin’s sixth consecutive playoff berth, and the 12th in 15 full seasons under 16-year head coach John Garcia.
