Two other residents were previously removed from the village for being disruptive, said village Resource Manager Ilse Biel. ...................... The nearly $5 million project was designed with 30 stand-alone, 120-square-foot homes and communal buildings for toilets, showers, cooking, laundry and meeting spaces. The occupancy of the village is capped at 40 people and it was expected to be fully occupied by July, according to county officials and information posted on the county website.

Joleen Nez death shows continued brutality of ABQ police, jail

30 2 minutes read On April 16, 2020, Albuquerque police harassed, arrested, and cited Joleen Nez for littering. Ten months later, she died in jail.  Nez, a homeless, Indigenous woman was confronted by an Albuquerque Police Department officer when she failed to dispose of two items of litter. This officer, Preston Panana, ordered Nez to pick up an empty paper cup and bowl that was on the curb. Panana, after demanding multiple times that Nez who is an adult pick up the cup and bowl, decided to escalate his harassment to an arrest and a ticket. Nez received a citation for “improper trash disposal.”

Unhoused woman arrested for littering dies in MDC custody

Ten months ago, Joleen Nez was accused of the crime of improper trash disposal in a southeast Albuquerque neighborhood. The petty charge ultimately cost Nez her life. Nez, an unhoused Native American woman, was cited, released and issued a criminal summons for the petty misdemeanor of littering on public property by officer Preston Panana of the Albuquerque Police Department on April 16, 2020.
