ALTUS, Okla. (TNN) - On Monday morning, the Altus Police Department released pictures of the vehicle involved in a hit and run that led to a manâs death Sunday morning.
Officials say police responded to a call around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, where they found a man who had been hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in the 200 block of south Main.

ALTUS, Okla. (TNN) - An Altus Police Officer is being called a hero after saving a family from a burning building Monday morning.
Officials say Police Lieutenant Chris Barngrover was on a routine patrol when he noticed a house on fire in the 1400 block of Adams Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday morning.
It’s reported that thick smoke was coming from an attached garage and flames could be seen through a window.

ALTUS, Okla. (TNN) - Altus Police are working to build a memorial for a man who was the first black officer in department history and is still the only officer ever killed in the line of duty in Altus.
On January 7, 1934, Officer John Henry Hill was on his way to a Masons meeting in Altus.
“He encountered two men who were heavily intoxicated and at that time, Altus was segregated, and they were in the black portion of town. For his safety, he patted them down, but they did not have weapons at that time. He ordered them to leave the area because he thought they were going to cause trouble,” said Detective Devin Dickerson.
