Detective Inspector Andy McWatt, of Lincolnshire Police, told the hearing at the Myle Cross Centre in Lincoln: Police were called to Alcorn Green at 10.22am on December 12 following reports of a male being found dead in a wooded area behind that green.
He said paramedics attended the scene, the deceased was initially believed to have been a 30-year-old man, and that the police investigation continues.
Coroner s officer Darren Sear said that Roberts, born in Liepaja, Latvia, was formally identified by his father Edgars Buncis.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with Roberts murder and was remanded in custody.

Jury clears teen driver over triple fatal crash

A newly qualified driver has been cleared of causing the deaths of three of her passengers after her overloaded car left the road and collided with a tree.
Kasey Boulton, 19, who had passed her driving test less than a month before the collision, had five passengers in her Vauxhall Astra including one in the rear footwell.
Ricky Sharp, 17, Aiden Sawyer,17, and Joby John Scrimshaw,14, all died. Boulton and the other two passengers were also seriously injured.

Second teen released over Fishtoft murder
There will be an increased police presence in the area
A 13-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Roberts Buncis, 12, has been released under investigation.
The body of Roberts was found in a common area at the rear of Alcorn Green in Fishtoft during the morning of Saturday, December 12.
Two teens, aged 14 and 19, were arrested on Saturday. The 14-year-old was charged with murder, and appeared in court in Lincoln on Monday, with a bandage around a hand wound. The 19-year-old was released with no further action on Monday afternoon.
Over £20,000 has been raised to help cover the funeral costs of Roberts, who died two days before his 13th birthday. At the time of publication, the total raised so far is £20,614.
