Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, the Sheikh Zayed Book has revealed the winners of its 15th edition across eight key categories.
Three women took prizes this year with internationally-renowned Egyptian author Iman Mersal, winning the Literature Prize, Dr. Asma bint Muqbil bin Awad Al-Ahmadi taking the Young Author Prize for her critical study of Saudi Women writers, and University of Chicago professor Tahera Qutbuddin winning the Prize for Culture in Other Languages for her book Arabic Oration: Art and Function.

The winners of the Sheikh Zayed Book Awards have been announced. The prize is among the top awards dedicated to supporting Arabic literature, language, and culture. The winners will be presented with their awards on May 23 in Abu Dhabi at the start of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
These awards cover eight categories: Translation, Contribution to the Development of Nations, Literary and Art Criticism, Young Authors, Children’s Literature, Arab Culture in Other Languages, Publishing and Technology, Contribution to the Development of Nations. A final category, Cultural Personality of the Year, will be announced at a later date.
Cairo: Lebanon’s premier-designate Saad Al Hariri has said that Pope Francis is interested in visiting Lebanon, but after a government is installed in the crisis-hit country.
“His Holiness the pope will visit Lebanon but after the formation of the government,” Al Hariri tweeted following talks with Francis in the Vatican.
Hariri, a veteran politician, was picked to form the Lebanese government. But he has since failed to stitch together a government amid a dispute with Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
“This is a message to all Lebanese and political factions that we have to expedite the formation of the government,” Al Hariri added in a series of tweets.

Seven authors and researchers from Egypt, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and the US, as well as a publishing house from Lebanon, have been declared the winners of this year s Sheikh Zayed Book Award.
The winners will be formally awarded in a virtual ceremony ahead of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in May. They will each receive a gold medal, certificate of merit and a cash prize of Dh750,000.
The winners were selected from a pool of more than 2,300 submissions, the most the annual award has received since it was founded in 2007.
