Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel won the first stage of the UAE Tour on Sunday in a sprint finish while Chris Froome sat comfortably in the peloton in his first race for new team Israel Start-Up Nation.
Von der Poel, who combines road racing with cyclo-cross, edged ahead of fellow Dutchman David Dekker in the last 50 metres as cycling s first major race of the season got under way in the Gulf state.
Danish rider Michael Morkov was third in the 176-kilometre stage from Al Dhafra to Al Mirfa.

Abu Dhabi issues circular for home quarantine procedure

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre issued a circular regarding home quarantine procedures for people contacting infected cases and incoming travellers.
According to the circular, when a person comes from another emirate and is in contact with with a positive case but vaccinated, he must remain in quarantine for 5 days, provided the test is repeated on the fourth day and the tracking watch is to be removed on the fifth day.
If that person is not vaccinated, he must remain in quarantine for 10 days, provided the test is repeated on the eighth day and the tracking watch is to be removed on the tenth day.
