Al Noor Island, Sharjah’s picturesque eco-architectural destination, has unveiled a new art installation in its collection. Titled ‘The Swing’, the commissioned work by Emirati artist Azza Al Qubaisi, is inspired and born out of local culture and heritage.
Shaped by seven abstract pieces of rusted mild steel and stainless steel, with ghaf and palm tree leaves cut on them, ‘The Swing’ features immersive and sustainable art that reflects the past and the present of the UAE. Infusing the theme of ‘anxious waiting’ that Emirati women went through during the pearl harvest season in the past and the nation’s current prosperity, ‘The Swing’ provokes thought for visitors and art enthusiasts alike.

Doha: Popular Qatari rider Saeed Al Sulaiti has consolidated his position at the top of the rankings following one of the two races in Round 2 of the Qatar Superstock Championship 600 (QTSK).
Al Sulaiti won the first race covering the 12-lap contest in a time of 25 minutes and 12.849 seconds, just 0.100 seconds ahead of his closest competitor Abdullah Al Qubaisi, who finished second with a time of 25.12.949.
Veteran rider Meshaal Al Nuaimi ranked third after recording a time of 25.43.119 while Youssef Al Darwish finished fourth with a time of 25.47.350. Al-Sulaiti, who had won the opening two races of the season, made it three-in-a-row with another brilliant show. The 35-year-old covered the 12-lap race of 64.6 km in a time of 25 minutes 12.849 seconds, a mere 0.100 seconds ahead of his closest competitor and defending champion al-Qubaisi. Instead of throwing away old plane parts, Etihad Airways is turning them into something beautiful.
The Abu Dhabi-based airline partnered with local artists to transform a variety of old interior plane parts into artwork that is being displayed at the airline’s headquarters.
The artists used outdated rolls of carpet and fabric, emergency equipment, sidewalls, windows and seats from economy and business classes for their installations, according to Etihad Airways.
The project is an environmentally friendly alternative of dealing with waste as opposed to sending the old plane parts to the landfill, Etihad Airways said in a press release. Etihad Airways has partnered with two artists to upcycle old plane parts into art installations at the airline s Abu Dhabi headquarters. Azza Al Qubaisi is pictured with her sculpture.
