Bob Dylan, original name
Robert Allen Zimmerman, (born May 24, 1941, Duluth, Minnesota, U.S.), American folksinger who moved from folk to rockmusic in the 1960s, infusing the lyrics of rock and roll, theretofore concerned mostly with boy-girl romanticinnuendo, with the intellectualism of classic literature and poetry. Hailed as the Shakespeare of his generation, Dylan sold tens of millions of albums, wrote more than 500 songs recorded by more than 2,000 artists, performed all over the world, and set the standard for lyric writing. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016. (

BBC Radio 4 is marking the 80th birthday of Bob Dylan with a series of essays, an original audio drama and a documentary.
From Monday 17th May Professor Sean Latham presents It Ain’t Me You’re Looking For: Bob Dylan at 80.
Latham is Director of the Institute for Bob Dylan Studies at the University of Tulsa, and in this five part series, illustrated with music, he looks closely at the songs and draws on the Bob Dylan Archive, including material never broadcast before, to explore the life, work and influence of this great and elusive artist.
The new album from folk singer Judy Collins is a collection of her favorite songs from throughout her career. Fans will be familiar with most of the songs except for the track that is the album title, which was first recorded in 1969 by hippie rock group It’s A Beautiful Day. Collins loved it the first time she heard it and decided to record it and release it as a single in March.
The album is a treasure, not only for the songs on it but also her guests – Willie Nelson. Stephen Stills and Joan Baez. Six of the songs are taken from previous recordings: “Blackbird,” “When I Go,” “Last Thing On My Mind,” “Both Sides Now,” “Diamonds and Rust” and “Send In The Clowns. Newly recorded are “Chelsea Morning,” “Turn Turn Turn (To Everything There Is A Season),” “Pack Up Your Sorrows” and “I think It’s Going To Rain Today.” Stills, who was linked romantically with Collins for a couple years in the late 60’s, is featured on guitar and vocals on “L
