Howard University is proud to be named a
Fulbright Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Institutional Leader. For the second consecutive year, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is recognizing the noteworthy engagement that selected HBCUs have achieved with the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government s flagship international educational exchange program. Howard University is one of 20 HBCUs to receive this distinction.

Howard University students and educators protest elimination of classical studies department
Howard University in Washington D.C. has declared its intention to liquidate the university’s Department of Classics the program dealing with the study of ancient Greco-Roman history, literature and philosophy by the fall. Students, alumni and educators at the college have denounced the move, drawing widespread support from around the world.
The classics department at Howard University, established at the college’s founding in 1867, is the only classical studies program at a historically black college in the US. The department currently includes courses in Mythology, Latin, Love in Antiquity, and Ideas in Antiquity among others.

WASHINGTON – The
2021 Bronze Anvil for Executive Communications presented by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for the campaign titled, “Howard University Positions President as a National Thought Leader.” The annual awards program recognizes and honors the very best public relations tactics. This year’s competition drew a total of 358 entries. Of those, only 33 organizations were selected as Bronze Anvil winners, thus demonstrating the high standards applied by the judges in their evaluation process.

Alonda Thomas Howard University
Alonda Thomas serves as director of public relations at Howard University. Recently named among the 2020 Top Women in PR by PRNEWS, Thomas is responsible for the development and management of the communications and media relations strategies designed to enhance the university’s reputation and visibility locally, nationally and internationally.
