Worcester shooting: Phet Gouvonvong identified as man killed by police

Phet Gouvonvong, 31, of Worcester, was identified as the victim. The officer who shot Gouvonvong has not been identified. “Our policy when there is an officer-involved shooting is to put the officer on administrative leave, which is where the officer is now,” said police Lt. Sean Murtha. “It’s always a stressful thing for the officers involved. We have spoken to him. He appears to be doing OK right now.” The confrontation began about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after a man called police and said he was carrying a rifle and a bomb.  He was threatening to detonate the device, District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. told reporters. The man was wearing body armor, Early said.

Mass gas prices hold steady at $2 74

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas sold in Massachusetts this week is $2.74, unchanged from a week ago, according to AAA Northeast.  This week’s average is 2 cents lower than a month ago ($2.76), but 77 cents higher than a year ago ($1.97). Massachusetts’ average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average. “Refinery utilization is nearly back to pre-pandemic levels, and with gasoline supplies increasing in the last month amid lower crude oil prices, motorists have benefited from mostly flat gas prices,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast s director of public and government affairs. “However, crude started to see some upward movement this week, which could translate to small increases at the pump by the end of April.”

Framingham teens go door-to-door to support COVID-19 vaccine equity

Get the Vax.” “Vax” stands for vaccines to fight COVID-19, and four teenagers are going door-to-door in Framingham, armed with the facts to show residents that it’s safe to get vaccinated. “It’s important, and needed,” said JoJo Dos Reis, a 17-year-old junior at Framingham High School who spent several hours Saturday knocking on doors and ringing doorbells in the Waverly Street area of downtown Framingham. The effort is part of a COVID-19 vaccine equity program run by the state Department of Public Health. Framingham is among 20 communities in the program, all with urban populations hard hit by COVID-19. Ultimately, the goal is to increase access and education around vaccines.
