Proud Kalkatungu woman Laree Barney has been awarded the 2021 Queensland University of Technology Indigenous Landscape Architecture Scholarship by Arcadia, after impressing the interview panel with her mature outlook and passion for design.
First established at the University of New South Wales in 2017, Arcadia offers scholarships for Indigenous students to study Landscape Architecture at eight universities across the country. Barney, along with other winners of the scholarship, will be supported with studio experience and mentoring from the Arcadia team in their state of choice.
Barney says being awarded the scholarship is an honour and will enable to further her studies, and awareness surrounding Indigenous practices.

(Bloomberg) - The U.S. oil market is showing clear signs of tightening on the back of strengthening demand, raising a question about whether the nationâs booming crude exports could slow.
Two key measures of U.S. market strength rallied to the highest levels in months this week, suggesting physical supply is becoming more constrained with traders willing to pay premiums to secure more-immediate barrels.
That in turn is helping to make West Texas Intermediate more expensive relative to the global oil price benchmark Brent. Several U.S. oil traders said exports could dip to all destinations and in particular to Europe because a narrowing spread if it persists would mean WTI loses competitiveness.

West Texas Intermediate for June delivery tumbled 1.4%, while global benchmark Brent also declined. Stock markets fell on inflation fears, while the dollar climbed, hampering prices. There was also an increase in U.S. crude stockpiles last week, the American Petroleum Institute reported.
