The UFC Vegas 24 main card is in progress and we got nothing but decisions before heading into the main event. The makeshift co-main event of the evening saw former heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski, take a tightly contested decision over Chase Sherman. It was the calf kick that was the most damaging tool that Arlovski brought to the table. It reduced the output of Sherman, and opened up his patented boxing game. The 42-year-old veteran has won three of his last four fights, and that’s bananas!
Welcome to F4WOnline.com s live coverage of UFC on ESPN 22: Whittaker vs. Gastelum, emanating from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Octagon remains home in Las Vegas for another week of exciting fights, and a card headlined by a fight we were supposed to see in the past that never actually happened in what should be an intriguing fight.
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker looks to secure himself a chance at regaining that title when he takes on Kelvin Gastelum in the main event. These two were supposed to fight at UFC 234 in February 2019, when Whittaker was the champion, but the fight was cancelled on the day of the show after Whittaker had to have emergency hernia surgery. After both went down separate paths, the opportunity to fight has now come full circle after Gastelum replaced Paulo Costa in this bout.
Whittaker had some choice words for the UFC middleweight champion.
Robert Whittaker took a highly-anticipated UFC Fight Night main event matchup against Kelvin Gastelum and made it his very own showcase.
Whittaker thoroughly dominated Gastelum in an all-around effort to score a unanimous decision shutout Saturday night. All three judges scored it 50-45 in favor of Whittaker at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. DAZN News had it 50-45 for Whittaker as well.
Fresh off the dominating victory, Whittaker flashed an ear-to-ear grin when the talk of a possible rematch with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was broached. I think it s about time we crossed paths once again, said Whittaker, who suffered a second-round KO loss to Adesanya in November 2019, having bounced back to win three straight fights since. I m going to work hard. I think I have some tricks he hasn t seen yet and I ll give him a good run.
