Support for putting a price on carbon dioxide pollution is steadily spreading from environmental advocates who have long promoted it and the states already reaping billions of dollars from the idea to the business groups and free-market economists who see it as one of the most cost-effective ways to confront climate change.

On the eve of his 100th day in office, President Biden used his first address to Congress to illustrate his quick start out of the gate, referencing climate change far more than his predecessors and aiming to balance his bold vision with his moderate sensibilities.
Reactions to his speech ranged from celebratory to downright appalled. While greens generally rejoiced, Republican politicians labeled Biden s defense of government action on COVID-19 and climate change as socialist.

A Republican on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission who raised eyebrows for delving into carbon pricing is considering staying on after his term expires, amid doubts that a Democratic successor can be confirmed by the end of June.
“Here we are in late April, and a successor has not even been nominated yet,” Commissioner Neil Chatterjee told Bloomberg Law, suggesting talk of his June 30 departure from the nation’s key energy regulatory body may be a bit premature.
