BENNINGTON â A man on supervised release is now facing potential life sentences after being accused of breaking into a Bennington home and four businesses over the weekend.
Ashton Lanfair, 26, pleaded not guilty Monday to three charges of burglary and one charge of attempted burglary. Because he already has multiple felony convictions on his record, he could be penalized up to life in prison on each of the new charges, according to court documents.
Lanfair, who appeared in court via video link from Southern State Correctional Facility, was ordered held without bail.

Knigge joins the executive team at Education Perfect (EP) that last year saw chief executive, Alex Burke, also bring on Pureprofile’s former chief technology officer Loucas Gatzoulis.
Knigge was senior vice president at Emirates for six years and led the digitisation of the airline setting the strategic direction for a range of topics including online sales growth, online customer experience, marketing technology, digital, data and analytics, and digital marketing.

ARLINGTON â An Arlington man who shot at state police while experiencing a mental health crisis was sentenced Tuesday to two years of jail time served and 10 years of probation.
The man, Matthew Novick, 42, was sentenced shortly after he pleaded no contest to a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon for the January 2019 shooting incident.
Novickâs other charge, attempted first-degree murder, was dismissed under a plea deal with the Bennington County Stateâs Attorneyâs Office â an agreement to which a state trooper objected.
âThis is more than a disappointment,â Trooper Raymond Witkowski told the court before Novickâs sentence was pronounced Tuesday morning. âThis is a slap in the face to me, not only as a victim but as a law enforcement professional who dedicated his life to fair and equal pursuit of justice.â
