(Image used for representative image) BENGALURU: With private hospitals facing a Covid-19 vaccine supply squeeze, their umbrella organisation AHPI has decided to procure 6 million doses directly from the manufacturers. The stocks are expected to arrive in 2-3 weeks. The Association of Healthcare Providers in India (AHPI) has sought for 2 million doses each of Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik, said Dr Hema Divakar, one of the conveners of AHPI vaccination committee. “The pilot will begin in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ranchi,” she said. The Centre stopped the supply of vaccines to private hospitals on May 1, but several people are still approaching these hospitals for their shots, especially the second dose. In Bengaluru alone, nearly 75% of the burden of vaccination drive was shouldered by private hospitals till May 1.
