Amendment 171, legislation brought forward by the EU Parliament in October 2020 for consideration by the EU Council and Commission, was withdrawn last Friday (21 May) after a trilogue between the EU Parliament, Council and Commission. This decision came in the face of major opposition to the proposed law, not only from plant-based suppliers, but also from consumers. At the time of writing, more than 456,000 people had signed a petition calling for the legislation to be scrapped.
