Residents of Louisiana can now have an electronic version of their COVID-19 vaccination records added to their LA Wallet, the state’s digital drivers’ license app.
Launched in 2018, LA Wallet is a legal driver’s license available to all Louisiana residents. It was jointly designed by the Office of Motor Vehicles, the State Police and the Department of Public Safety. It was developed for free by Louisiana software firm Envoc and is currently used by 670,000 state residents across 1.2 million devices.
The vaccination record on file with the Louisiana Department of Health can be easily added to the app, and recent COVID-19 test result status will soon be available. Residents who choose to use the LA Wallet app can share their COVID-19 status with others either visually or programmatically.

A House committee unanimously approves legislation banning the Office of Motor Vehicles from putting a person’s vaccine status on their driver’s license, or requiring vaccination to receive an ID.
Gonzales Representative Kathy Edmonston said she filed this bill to make sure state IDs could not be turned into “vaccine passports”.
“Overwhelmingly citizens do not want the driver’s license to become a vaccine passport or be used for any type of medical information,” said Edmonston.
“Vaccine passports” identify someone as being fully vaccinated, thus allowing them access to entry and participation in certain events like concerts that will only allow participation from those fully vaccinated.

Louisiana Gov John Bel Edwards will lift his statewide COVID-19 mask mandate in most places beginning Wednesday as the state continues to keep a lid on infections and hospitalizations.
Edwards new order will keep mask requirements in early childhood education facilities, schools, colleges and universities, healthcare facilities, nursing homes, public transit vehicles and state government buildings like the Office of Motor Vehicles. We continue to see several months of sustained decreases in hospitalizations and increases in supplies of the vaccines, Edwards said. I think it s a reflection of where we are at this stage of the pandemic.
Heads of state agencies not run by the governor can opt out of the mask mandate in state buildings that fall under their authority.
