Maynard residents frustrated, unable to register for COVID-19 vaccination
So far, Dottie and Jack MacKeen have been unable to book an appointment for a COVID vaccine.
It’s not for lack of trying.
The Maynard couple has completed the application process on the state website, attesting they are eligible to receive the vaccine because of their age. They have tried to find a site with available vaccines but so far haven t had any luck.
“That has been a frustration for everyone and not just for those of us trying to get the vaccine, but also for the organizations trying to supply the vaccine,” Dottie said.

Carleen Gavin had taken every step to sign up for a coronavirus vaccine appointment. I follow my governor s plan, said Gavin, 81, saying she put her name on a list with her physician, and with the Cameron Senior Center, where she is an active, longtime member.
Gavin spoke with her daughter who lives in Toronto and her daughter walked her through the steps online.
When requested for an image, on both sides, of her insurance card, Gavin said, I don t have that kind of technology here. She called her home health aide, asking her to swing by with her cellphone to take photos of the card.

WEST YARMOUTH Nearly 40 residents of the Mill Hill Residence have tested positive for COVID-19, but most of the cases appear to be mild, officials at the senior living facility said.
Brian Geyser, CEO of Maplewood Senior Living, which runs the Mill Hill Residence, said in a Friday evening email that Mill Hill has 39 residents who have contracted the virus.
“Most affected residents are either asymptomatic or exhibiting mild symptoms,” Geyser said.
“All affected individuals are doing well, and their families were contacted immediately,” he said.
“The residents are in isolation with a dedicated team of senior clinical staff on-site overseeing and administering care,” he said.

The public health data show that as compared with their straight, cisgender peers, LGBT older adults report higher rates of fair/poor overall physical and mental health. They experienced suicidal thoughts in the past year at four times the rate of their peers, and were more likely to report serious difficulty in concentrating, remember, or making decisions.
“Although a lot of the information in this report focuses on health risks and disparities, we also found that LGBTQ older adults are resilient, in part, because they’ve had dramatically different life experiences than their straight and cisgender peers,” said Sean Cahill of The Fenway Institute
