New Jersey Herald The Bergen County woman said she thought her troubles had ended last May when she took refuge in her car after an altercation at her then-boyfriend s home in Vernon.  But as she settled into her vehicle for the night, she heard a knock on the window, she said in a lawsuit filed last week in Sussex County.  The knock was allegedly a prelude to a sexual assault by a Vernon Township police officer, Emanuel Rivera, who now faces criminal charges over the May 2020 incident. In the suit filed in state Superior Court, his alleged victim says the encounter has left her with lasting emotional trauma.

Hightstown gang member allegedly part of jail hit squad

Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced on April 29 that an alleged local leader of the Latin Kings street gang and eight inmates allegedly under his command in various correctional facilities – including Northern State Prison in Newark and New Jersey State Prison in Trenton – have been charged with forming a “hit squad” within the prison system to commit assaults on behalf of the gang. They are specifically charged with engaging in conduct including a brutal attack on one inmate in New Jersey State Prison, a planned assault on another inmate in Northern State Prison that was prevented by the New Jersey Department of Corrections (DOC), and possession of makeshift blades called “shanks,” according to the statement.
