Jan 21 30 Utahns died of COVID-19

. The state reported 30 COVID-19 related deaths on Thursday, tying the one-day total record for the state set on Dec. 17. Three of the deaths reported by the Utah Department of Health on Thursday, though, occurred before Dec. 31 and were recently confirmed to be caused by COVID-19 after analysis from the Office of the Medical Examiner. There have been 87 coronavirus related deaths in Utah in the past week, and 278 so far in January. A total of 1,547 Utahns have died of the virus since the pandemic began. Most of the deaths were older Utahns 24 of the 30 were ages 65 and older, and 10 were ages 85 and older.

Bennington Police Investigating Homicide

Update Jan. 21: The Bennington Banner reports that Darren Pronto, 32, of Pownal was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Emily Hamann, 26. Pronto was being held at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield. He is accused of lying in wait for Hamann and slashing her throat with a knife. The attack was captured on a home security camera, according to police. The Banner reports that Pronto, who has pleaded not guilty, faces 35 years to life if convicted.     BENNINGTON, Vt. A local woman attacked on the river walkway late Monday morning died of her injuries at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.    Police have taken a suspect into custody in the homicide and recovered a weapon believed to be used in the attack. Neither the victim or suspect s have been released by authorities.

Police were called to the home in the Platt Park neighborhood,after receiving a request for a welfare check. They said all three appeared to have gunshot wounds. DPD later tweeted that the death investigation appears to be a domestic-related double murder-suicide involving an adult female, adult male and infant.
