KHON KAEN: The driver of the tour bus that burst into flames early on Tuesday, killing five passengers and injuring 12 others, has been charged with reckless driving causing deaths and injuries.
The fatal fire occurred about 12.30am on Tuesday on the Mittraphap highway in Ban Haet district, shortly after the Bangkok-bound bus, with 33 passengers on board, left the Khon Kaen terminal.
Pol Col Thanomsak Sopha, the Ban Haet police chief, said on Wednesday that the driver, Patsadee Kham-on, 48, of Maha Sarakham s Borabue district, who also sustained burns, had been charged.

A special policy is on offer for people to insure themselves against Songkran traffic accidents and Covid-19 infections, according to government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek.
The 10-baht premium was intended to be a gift from the government to people who travel during the holiday and to soothe their concerns about a fresh wave of infections, Ms Rachada said on Friday.
The policies are being sold until the end of next month while the Songkran holiday exodus is under way. The holiday period lasts until April 18.

Leading mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has partnered with MSIG Insurance to launch Prakan Kubdee motor insurance, gauging motorists driving behaviour using an Internet of Things (IoT) device attached to their vehicles for premium calculation.
This project is the first under the Office of the Insurance Commission s (OIC) regulatory sandbox. The product is part of AIS Insurance Service, which serves as a digital insurance broker, said Alistair David Johnston, managing director for new business at AIS.
