Ghana does not need an office of special prosecutor in the fight against corruption, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is based in the United States, Dr Arthur Kennedy, has said.
Dr Arthur Kennedy told Dzifa Bampoh on the First Take on 3FM Tuesday May 11 that what Ghana needs is a president who has the will to fight corruption and also punish his own appointees who are neck deep in graft.
President Nana Addo Dankwa promised to create an Office of Special Prosecutor as part of his measures to deal with corruption.
Accordingly, he established the office.

President Nana Akufo-Addo says Kissi Agyebeng is fit and eminently qualified to be nominated to become the next Special Prosecutor of Ghana. The President has, therefore, accepted his nomination as the Special Prosecutor, with the hope that Parliament would expedite action on his approval.
This was contained in a release signed and issued yesterday by Mr Eugene Arhin, who is the acting Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Jubilee House.
Following his satisfaction, Nana Addo, has, by a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Bagbin, dated April 29, 2021, sought Parliament’s approval for the appointment.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has forwarded the nomination of Mr Kissi Agyebeng as Special Prosecutor to the Speaker of Parliament for vetting and approval.
This was after the President had accepted the nomination from the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame, under section 13(3) of Act 959 for consideration as the second occupant of the Office of Special Prosecutor.
A statement issued and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, in Accra yesterday said the President by a letter to the Speaker, Mr Alban Bagbin, dated April 29, 2021, sought Parliament s approval of the appointment.

MAY 6, 2021 President Akufo-Addo has expressed the hope that Parliament will speed up the vetting and approval of Special Prosecutor nominee, Mr Kissi Agyebeng.
This comes after Mr Akufo-Addo has accepted Mr Agyebeng’s nomination by the Attorney General.

A press release issued by the Communications Directorate of the Jubilee House said President Akufo-Addo deems Mr Agyebeng as being eminently qualified to become Special Prosecutor has since sought Parliament s approval for the appointment. It will be recalled that President Akufo-Addo accepted the resignation from office of Mr. Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor on 16th November 2020, and, in accordance with section 13(8) of the Office of Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), is required to appoint a replacement within six (6) months of the position becoming vacant, the release said.
