  Ghana does not need an office of special prosecutor in the fight against corruption, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is based in the United States, Dr Arthur Kennedy, has said. Dr Arthur Kennedy told Dzifa Bampoh on the First Take on 3FM Tuesday May 11 that what Ghana needs is a president who has the will to fight corruption and also punish his own appointees who are neck deep in graft. President Nana Addo Dankwa promised to create an Office of Special Prosecutor as part of his measures to deal with corruption. Accordingly, he established the office.

A press release issued by the Communications Directorate of the Jubilee House said President Akufo-Addo deems Mr Agyebeng as being eminently qualified to become Special Prosecutor has since sought Parliament s approval for the appointment. It will be recalled that President Akufo-Addo accepted the resignation from office of Mr. Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor on 16th November 2020, and, in accordance with section 13(8) of the Office of Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), is required to appoint a replacement within six (6) months of the position becoming vacant, the release said.
