State Department watchdog steps down after Pompeo rails at report on investigation into wife s travel

State Department watchdog steps down after Pompeo rails at report on investigation into wife s travel Updated 8:30 PM ET, Thu December 10, 2020 Washington (CNN)State Department acting Inspector General Matthew Klimow is leaving his post earlier than expected after just a few months on the job, he told colleagues in a memo, a source at the Office of the Inspector General told CNN on Thursday. Klimow announced his departure the same day Secretary of State Mike Pompeo s department offered a combative response to an inspector general report on an investigation into travel by the secretary s wife, Susan. The independent watchdog found that the majority of trips by Susan Pompeo over a two-year period had taken place without written approval from the State Department, despite the fact that her trips were considered official travel and paid for by US taxpayers.

Health care workers are urging the incoming Biden administration to use the Defence Production Act to increase domestic manufacturing of personal protective equipment. Hilary Swift/The New York Times As Americans celebrate the rollout of a coronavirus vaccine, many of the doctors and nurses first in line for inoculation say a victory lap is premature. They fear that the optimism stirred by the vaccine will overshadow a crisis that has drawn scant public attention in recent months: the alarming shortage of personal protective equipment, or PPE, that has led front line medical workers to ration their use of the disposable gloves, gowns and N95 respirator masks that reduce the spread of infection.

It s too easy to escape the Hatch Act (opinion)

It s too easy to escape the Hatch Act (opinion) CNN 12/18/2020 By Steven A. Holmes, CNN © RNC In a video statement to the RNC from Jerusalem on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo praised Trump s foreign policy initiatives even describing the President s fruitless courting of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as a victory. Kellyanne Conway s contempt for the law could not have been clearer. In June 2019, a federal watchdog agency accused Conway, then a top White House aide, of violating the Hatch Act, which forbids most members of the Executive Branch from engaging in partisan political activity while in office. The agency, the Office of Special Counsel, said Conway had violated the Hatch Act several times and should be fired.

Peter Navarro Puts Out Immaculate Deception Report Rehashing Debunked Trump Complaints

December 17, 2020 5:31 p.m. The President’s top trade adviser circulated a report Thursday detailing all the ways that, in fact, the 2020 election was stolen on Joe Biden’s behalf. Peter Navarro, who infamously invented and quoted the fake expert “Ron Vara” in several of his books, provided a similarly colorful analysis of the supposed “irregularities” he said plagued the 2020 race starting “at the stroke of midnight” on Election Day.  He also repeated obvious mistakes that have been pointed out by judges and national media outlets, such as mixing up Michigan and Minnesota.  But Navarro’s “Immaculate Deception” report is, by its own admission, just a re-hashing of lawsuits and press conference fodder that judges across the country have laughed out of court.
