El Toro Road and Laguna Canyon Road. 10:32 p.m. A 2010 Mazda on El Toro Road appeared to have either a traffic collision or was disabled facing into bushes with headlights on. Kevin Michael Connors, 53, was arrested on suspicion of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia possession. He was held on a $1,000 bail. Thursday, May 13 DUI. 11:35 p.m. A 19-year-old woman driving a Blue Toyota was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Minors were passengers in the vehicle and picked up by their parents.  The driver was held on a $2,500 bail. Friday, May 14 Traffic collision. 1000 block of Laguna Canyon Road. 3:13 p.m. A white Toyota and orange utility vehicles collided and smoke was reported from one of the vehicles. Occupants were reported as trapped inside the vehicles but conscious and breathing. First responders arrived on the scene and all lanes were temporarily blocked. Sometimes we forget that we have a LGBT-friendly beach, West Street beach in south Laguna north of the stairway with the same name. West Street became a popular “gay” beach when Main Beach Park was under construction and our historic LGBT beach was south of the main lifeguard tower to Hotel Laguna. People going to West Street can take a free trolley starting June 25 and or park on South Coast Highway, the parking lots at Aliso Beach or take the OCTA # 1 bus south from Long Beach and north from San Clemente from early morning to early evening. Within walking distance of this world listed beach is The Ranch at Laguna Beach, Ben Brown’s Golf Course, Harvest restaurant and other cafes in south Laguna including Coyote Grill, AhbA, South Swell Donuts and Pho, Neapolitan birreria, and the Lost Pier Cafe, directly north of West Street beach.

Lifeguard agencies along Orange County’s coastline are gearing up for tryout season, a unique job application process that requires lifeguard hopefuls to beat out the competition during rigorous swim and run races. It also requires applicants to be able to withstand frigid water in the 50s that can send a chilling shock through the body. With the ongoing coronavirus concern, tryouts will be a bit different this year for those who show up hoping to score a seasonal job at the beach.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for coastal Orange County in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday and lasting through Friday afternoon. The heaviest rain was expected late Thursday night into Friday morning, with a total of about 1.5 inches forecast for near the coast.
