KMT urges age tolerance as councilor apologizes

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Taipei City Councilor Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) yesterday apologized for calling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Rosalia Wu (吳思瑤) “ractopamine pork auntie,” while KMT Culture and Communications Committee director-general Alicia Wang (王育敏) urged the public not to judge politicians based on age or appearance.
“There is no need for people to judge politicians based on age or physical appearance, or to use discriminatory words,” Wang told the launch ceremony of a KMT shop on the e-commerce platform PChome.
“The DPP claims to be a progressive party. Its young members should not use discriminatory language,” Wang said.

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) yesterday commended Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member Fan Kang-hao (范綱皓) for apologizing over his comments on social media regarding the age of KMT Culture and Communications Committee director Alicia Wang (王育敏).
In a Facebook post on Monday that has since been deleted, Fan, who is the director of the DPP’s online community center, asked why the KMT Youth Department had chosen “the already 50-year-old Alicia Wang” to model its new jackets.
The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) yesterday said that the lifting of a ban on the importation of US pork containing traces of ractopamine has led to higher prices for domestic pork.

Premier calls for scientific facts in ractopamine debate

Deliberations on ractopamine must be based on scientific evidence, not rumors, Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said yesterday.
“Some people hide their spreading of rumors and disinformation behind free speech, but that is wrong,” Su told a session of the Legislative Yuan.
Su made the remarks following the Chinese Nationalist Party’s (KMT) expression of support for psychiatrist Su Wei-shuo (蘇偉碩).
In media interviews earlier this week, Su Wei-shuo said: “The toxic effect of ractopamine is 250 times that of an ecstasy [MDMA] pill.”
When a nation allows the importation of products with traces of ractopamine, its “entire ecosystem will become filled with ractopamine, even the air, so that people will inhale it just by breathing,” Su Wei-shuo told reporters.
