THE NUMBER of miles covered by cars in Herefordshire plummeted by a quarter last year with travel impacted by the coronavirus lockdown, figures show. Last year saw the fewest miles driven on the area s roads by motorists since 1993, when records began. But any respite in traffic levels will soon be over, says the RAC, which predicts a busy summer on the roads as restrictions are eased. Data from the Department for Transport shows cars and taxis covered an estimated 707 million miles on Herefordshire s roads during 2020. That was 24% fewer than in 2019 when 935 million miles were covered. It was a similar picture across Great Britain with the number of miles of car journeys down 25%.

Ticketing at Saskatchewan “freedom” rallies has sparked conversation around why only certain individuals receive fines and court dates.
With COVID-19 changing the way the law system works in Canada, it has left some grey area for justice, according to Saskatchewan criminal lawyer Brian Pfefferle.
“If you were to, for example, cordon off a 200-person event and charge all 200 people, there may be a public outcry saying, ‘We’re using public resources (and) we’re using court systems to charge all these individuals and that’s an unnecessary use of resources,’ and that 200-person rally could turn into a 2,000-person rally next time,” Pfefferle said.

Citing dangerous and unsanitary living conditions, Saskatoon’s fire chief says more than a dozen suites inside a notorious Saskatoon apartment building are being closed and its occupants moved to safe accommodations.
The fire department, as of Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., has “taken the necessary steps” to close 16 suites at the Prairie Heights building at 1416 20th Street West, Chief Morgan Hackl said on Thursday.

Weeks after police say a man threatened Olympic athlete Sakura Kokumai in an Orange County park, authorities allege he also attacked an elderly couple in the same place, leading to his arrest Sunday night.
Orange police say Michael Vivona, 25, punched a Korean American couple in the face at Grijalva Park the same site where Kokumai filmed a man harassing her nearly three weeks ago.
A 79-year-old man and 80-year-old woman were taking a stroll Sunday evening in the park when Vivona approached them around 7:30 p.m. and, without saying much, knocked them both to the ground with his punches, Orange police spokesman Phil McMullin said.
