The Iditarod has announced its first coronavirus case, in a musher at a major mid-race checkpoint.
Gunnar Johnson of Minnesota tested positive for COVID-19 at the checkpoint in McGrath, near race mile 310, more than a third of the way into the Iditarod.
Race officials required mushers to test negative for COVID-19 three times before the Iditarod began the last swab taken hours before Sunday’s start.

The Sami Parliament in Finland has decided more time is needed to prepare for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission saying COVID-19 has slowed work considerably.
The parliament agreed that the November 2022 deadline should be pushed until the end of of 2023, they announced on Monday.

NOEL KING, HOST: Seven Republican senators voted to convict Donald Trump in his impeachment trial. Only Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska faces an election next year. Republicans in her state have already started to censure her. But Alaska also has a new election system, one that was adopted by voters, which means the Republican Party may not have the power to take Murkowski out in a primary.
