KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 The Year of Golden Ox is celebrated moderately by the Chinese community today by adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO). Although this year’s celebration is devoid of lion or dragon dance performances, large fireworks display and open houses, religious activities in the temple and visiting families are still allowed for those living within 10 kilometres radius.

Unique physically-distanced class photos for 2020

The most eye-catching ones were the Year One classes at SJK(C) Keat Hwa (K) where pupils appear to be sitting inside boxes stacked on top of each other. In reality, photos of each pupil sitting in boxes were taken individually and later stitched together with photo-editing software. The idea was the brainchild of school alumnus and photographer Zhang Tian Hao, 43, who enlisted the help of a team of parents as volunteers for the photoshoot.

Malaysia s first Covid-19 vaccine trial officially underway

PUTRAJAYA: The first Covid-19 vaccine trial to be conducted in Malaysia is now officially underway. In a virtual ceremony on Wednesday (Jan 27), Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba launched the Phase 3 clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by China s Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS). A total of nine hospitals nationwide will be involved in the clinical trials, under the coordination of the Health Ministry s Institute of Clinical Research (ICR). In a statement, the Health Ministry said the implementation of the trial must meet international standards and policies of the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and the Helsinki Declaration.

ALOR SETAR: A Myanmar man suspected of being involved in processing and selling illegal liquor was arrested in a raid on a house in Taman Perak area in Kulim, yesterday. Kulim district police chief Supt Azhar Hashim said the 41-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the Hi-Tech Police Station at 12 noon, on Friday. “During the raid, we also seized 367 bottles of liquor estimated to be worth RM7,905. All the duty-unpaid liquor is believed to have been processed by the suspects for sale around Kulim during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period which came into force yesterday.
