Alamo Heights ISD candidate s work history claim disputed

Alamo Heights ISD candidate s work history claim disputed April 29, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Carey Watson Hildebrand, who is running for an Alamo Heights Independent School District board seat in Saturday’s election, has touted her work experience high up in Wyoming’s education bureaucracy, but people who were there now disagree about the job title she claims she held. Since starting her campaign in February, Hildebrand, 41, has said she spent a year as the chief of staff for the director of the State Board of Education in Wyoming, from 2004 to 2005, after serving in various assistant roles within that state’s education department. Trent Blankenship, the Wyoming state superintendent of public instruction at the time, said Hildebrand worked for him as a liaison to the State Board of Education. He could not remember whether her official title was chief of staff but her duties effectively made her one, he said.

Spring election breaks early voting records in San Antonio

Spring election breaks early voting records in San Antonio FacebookTwitterEmail Early voting turnout for San Antonio’s spring election broke records this week. Over eight days, residents cast more than 113,000 votes, far surpassing early voting numbers in spring elections from the past 20 years, according to Jacque Callanen, Bexar County elections administrator. Officials are baffled by the large turnout ahead of the May 1 election. “We can’t figure it out,” Callanen said. She wondered whether the increased availability of coronavirus vaccines or if the propositions on the ballot are bringing in more people. Either way, “We’re thrilled.” On Tuesday, the last day of early voting, 26,065 people cast their ballots in person at 37 polling sites, according to Bexar County Elections’ website. The total early voting turnout, including 12,375 mail-in ballots received by Wednesday morning, is about 11.9 percent, Callanen said.
