Kay Ivey has scheduled a special election in District 73 in the Alabama House of Representatives, which includes part of Shelby County. Rep. Matt Fridy, R-Montevallo, who held the seat, was elected to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals. Fridy has held the seat since 2014. The special primary will be March 30. The runoff, if needed, will be April 27. The general election will be July 13. The dates coincide with the special election in Senate District 14, which includes portions of Bibb, Chilton, Hale, Jefferson and Shelby counties. That special election is to replace Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, who left the seat to become director of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.
