Alabama expects about 10,000 additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the coming weeks as part of a federal effort to expand vaccination programs.
Alabama State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris said eligibility changes will mean some 1.5 million people in the state will be able to receive the vaccine starting Feb. 8.
Healthcare workers, residents and workers of long-term care facilities, first responders and people ages 75 and older are currently eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Alabama pharmacies could be getting their own supply of COVID vaccines in the coming weeks. President Bidenâs administration announced Tuesday they will be sending vaccine supplies directly to pharmacies.
Alabama State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris said Wednesday this is great news. The state has been struggling to get more people vaccinated and the biggest problem has been the limited supply of vaccines that are being shipped to the state.
Dr. Harris said there are more than 880 providers to give shots in Alabama unfortunately they are not getting enough vaccine doses to give to all those providers.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville Hospital CEO David Spillers says that John Hunt Park will serve as north Alabamaâs large-scale vaccination clinic.
Spillers made the announcement during the Wednesday Huntsville-Madison County COVID-19 briefing that happens weekly.
On Wednesday, when the news was announced, you had to certify that you were a Madison County resident to sign-up on Huntsville Hospitalâs waitlist. The Hospital said on Thursday that requirement has been removed from their online form, and that the clinic is open to residents outside of Madison County.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Educators Friday praised the decision to qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine in Alabama.
“We are (Alabama State Health Officer) Dr. Scott Harris very grateful for working with Alabama and the nation to get the vaccines for our public school staff. Even childcare workers are great as many of our teachers naturally need childcare workers to take care of their children. “
The decision announced Friday roughly doubles the number of people allowed to receive vaccines, starting Feb. 8.
