Plans to Expand Montgomery Riverfront

The Riverfront Greenway Trail will connect the Riverfront to parts of North Montgomery.   Lois Cortell with the City of Montgomery shared the plans to build close to a mile long walking and biking trail starting at Riverfront Park. The project would not be possible without a $35,000 donation from the Montgomery Lions Club to design this next phase of the trail.   Amy Neeunschwander, the Executive Director of the Montgomery Lions Club, explained how the design fits with the Lions Club mission to serve the visually impaired. The project is being funded by an ALDOT Transportation Alternative Program Grant of up to $640,000.  

MFR: Highland Avenue Home Severely Damaged in Fire

Alabama News Home Damaged by Fire on Highland Avenue in Montgomery/Source: Alabama News Network Montgomery Fire and Rescue is investigating a fire that occurred on February 17 in the 2300 block of Highland Avenue. Fire crews received the call of a fire and upon arrival they found a single story home engulfed in flames. They determined the fire to be a W-3 working fire. Fire units quickly extinguished the fire but the home suffered extensive fire and smoke damage to the entire structure. Fire crews report no injuries in the fire and continue to investigate the cause.

Dreamland BBQ Expanding to East Montgomery

Alabama News Updated: A popular BBQ restaurant is expanding to east Montgomery. Managing Partner Bob Parker confirmed with Alabama News Network that Dreamland BBQ has purchased the former Shrimp Basket location at the corner of Vaughn Road and Taylor Road in Sturbridge. Parker says the new location will reach more than their usual clientele that frequent their downtown location. “We realize the things that really made us successful downtown are kind of hurting us right now,” Parker said. “We are not operating near residents; people are not traveling as much into the downtown area to see the conventions, military is not moving around, and we lost baseball, so we decided we need to be near people.”

City of Montgomery Offices, County Offices, Downtown Streets Closing As Protest Precaution

The city of Montgomery says some downtown streets will be closed starting tonight at 6 p.m. as a precaution due to the possibility of protests in state capital cities across the country. In addition, City of Montgomery offices will be closed to the public Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s City Council meeting has been canceled. The next meeting will be Tuesday,.
