Courtesy photo For more than 30 years the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce has hosted an annual banquet an awards ceremony in January to celebrate the accomplishments of local businesses and community leaders. In light of the continued safety concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebration has been put on hold.

Clark replaces Thomas J. Donohue, 83, who led the organization for 24 years and built up the chamber financially and politically during the decades he controlled the organization.

Greater Utica Chamber Of Commerce Names New Executive Director The Chamber Board of Directors has named Kari Puleo to the post. Puleo will be replacing Meghan Fraser McGroghan, who has held the position for the last six years. The official transition will take place at the end of February. “I’m ecstatic to be working alongside such a talented chamber team. Together, we will continue to build strong partnerships and connections for the Greater Utica business community,” said Puleo. Puleo has been a Utica resident for over fifteen years. For the past seven years, she has been the Director of Advancement for Notre Dame Schools.

Special to the Journal COLUMBIANA The Chamber of Commerce is looking into creative ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, and that includes the use of large pods. City council has approved a request from chamber member Nicole Ice for the chamber’s celebration event on March 14 that will include a parade. The approval is dependent upon final approval from the city police department and county health department. Ice said the plans have been submitted to the health department, and that the chamber is planning to have 6-by-6-foot pods, or “viewing box seats” placed along the parade route so that people can view the parade and maintain social distancing required due to the pandemic.
