Ariel Quartet: Beethoven Cycle, Part 3

Characterized by its youth, brilliant playing, and soulful interpretations, the Ariel Quartet has quickly earned a glowing international reputation. Formed in Israel as teenagers at the Jerusalem Academy Middle School of Music and Dance and celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2020–21, the Quartet was named recipient of the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, granted by Chamber Music America in recognition of artistic achievement and career support. They return to ArtPower for two concerts this season, as they perform the complete Beethoven Cycle, in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday in 2020. This concert marks the third of a five-concert series. Composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha Tate to Release LOWAK SHOPPALA On Azica Records

On Friday, June 4, 2021, composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha Tate will release the world premiere recording of Lowak Shoppala (Fire and Light) on Azica Records. Lowak Shoppala expresses Chickasaw identity through the medium of modern classical music and theatre through eight scenes and features orchestra, narration of a libretto by Chickasaw poet and Pulitzer Prize finalist Linda Hogan, children s chorus, traditional Chickasaw and classical vocal soloists, and Chickasaw storytellers. Each scene (Fire and Light, Double Header, Shell Shaker, Clans, Removal, Spider Brings Fire, Hymn, Double Header & Finale) depicts a part of Chickasaw culture and history and is sung in Chickasaw.
La MaMa has announced the lineup for the 16th edition of La MaMa Moves! Returning for its annual spring season for two weeks in May, the 2021 festival will feature works by Hadar Ahuvia and Tatyana Tenenbaum, J. Bouey, Jasmine Hearn, Tiffany Mills, Ricarrdo Valentine, and Sugar Vendil. Performances will be streamed live from La MaMa s Ellen Stewart Theatre and Downstairs Theatre, with additional performances outdoors at Downtown Art for limited, in-person audiences. The festival will also include a digital showcase featuring the work of several International Artists. La MaMa Moves! will take place Thursday through Sunday, May 13-16, and Tuesday through Sunday, May 18-23. Performance times vary. Tickets are pay-what-you-can starting at $5.
