When it comes to selecting a weed-centric song of particular brilliance, few people are as qualified as Mike “Muleboy” Makela to offer a primo selection. Makela is the frontman for Bongzilla, the legendary Wisconsin stoner metal band. Their albums, with titles like
Gateway and
Amerijuanican, have exalted on high the stickiest of the icky since the band’s formation in the mid-1990s. It’s been 16 years since Bongzilla’s last release of original material, but a new album, dubbed
Weedsconsin, is set to drop on 4/20.
Makela discussed the new album, America s changing weed culture and one epic marijuana song in a recent phone interview, a discussion punctuated by frequent bong hits. Makela admitted the new music might never have happened if not for the unusual global events of 2020.
Farm Fest goes virtual, but live events planned later this year

The 1960s decision to give Leavenworth a Bavarian makeover was reportedly inspired by the California town of Solvang, which had adopted a Danish theme.
This fall, something will be different in the mountain town of Leavenworth, the Bavarian-styled hamlet two hours east of Seattle where even the fast food restaurants have gingerbread trim and painted shutters. Usually a giant Oktoberfest descends on downtown for three consecutive weekends, the oompah sounds of traditional polka music wafting over beer gardens set up outside the city s Festhalle civic center. But today, Projekt Bayern, the nonprofit that has overseen Leavenworth Oktoberfest since its conception, announced that for the second year in a row, the fest won t occur due to lingering Covid-19 effects.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ The family of a 10-year-old South Jersey girl who died when she was ejected from an amusement park ride in 2019 has now sued the makers of that ride, alleging they knew the ride was dangerous.
The suit was filed Feb. 22 in Middlesex County Superior Court and the lawsuit highlighted that the same ride has been used every year since 1998 at the Middlesex County Fair.
The ride is the Xtreme Super Sizzler, owned by Skelly s Amusements. Skelly s provides the rides for many fairs throughout New Jersey, and the Sizzler is a very common and popular amusement park ride. The Sizzler is very similar to the Scrambler.
