Faculty and staff winners of this year’s Showcase awards were announced today ahead of the weeklong celebration of academic excellence.
Amit Bandyopadhyay, a faculty member of the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, received this year’s Distinguished Faculty Award in recognition of his achievements in research, scholarship and teaching. Bandyopadhyay will be delivering this year’s Distinguished Faculty Address on March 22.
The State of the University address, Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA), Three-Minute Thesis and the Celebrating Excellence Awards Ceremony are among events scheduled during the annual Showcase week, March 22-29. All of this year’s events will be taking place online. Continue to check the Showcase website for the latest information on dates and times of events, as well as ways to participate.
Cody Tornow, WSU’s lead international student adviser, said the price of health care is a challenge for people around the U.S. and can be a surprise to many international students. Pullman’s rural location makes access to affordable health care even more difficult.
Emergencies are going to happen, said Kate Hellmann, director of WSU’s International Student and Scholar Services. Students must plan for the event of an emergency.
Consider what constitutes an emergency and plan ahead, she said. The emergency room is typically the most expensive route for treatment.
“U.S. health care is like a foreign language,” Hellmann said.
