Bloody Clearmont needed a jail in 1922 – Sheridan Media

On May 14, 1984, the Old Clearmont Jail was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Ann Arndt, former Clearmont teacher, was instrumental in making sure that the old jail was included in the Registry. The town of Clearmont was founded in 1892 with the coming of the railroad. In 1893, work was begun on a rail line running from Clearmont to the Town of Sheridan. In this early period of Clearmont’s history, much of the business in the valley was cattle ranching. The great numbers of cowboys who descended on Clearmont every Saturday night, sometimes engaging in gun play, gave the town the reputation of “Bloody Clearmont.” In addition to the cowboys, railroad workers would sometimes get drunk and add to the general confusion. Arvada-Clearmont Accepts Auzqui Resignation – Sheridan Media

The Arvada-Clearmont School board held a special meeting Wednesday night to vote to accept the resignation of Superintendent Charles Auzqui who recently accepted the position of Superintendent of Johnson County District Schools and to discuss steps to be taken to hire a new superintendent for the school. In a pre-board meeting interview, Auzqui had this to say about the new position. “I’ve lived in the Clearmont-Buffalo area all my life. Grandpa came from the old country as a sheepherder, my family started out in Buffalo and moved to Clearmont. I attended Arvada/Clearmont school from 1-9th grades, then transferred to Buffalo and graduated as a Bison in 1985.

Winter Storm Closes A/C School – Sheridan Media

Due to the winter storm, Highway 14-16 between Ucross and the Campbell County Line was closed on Tuesday, and as of 10 a.m. the estimated opening was time is unknown, according to Wydot. Arvada-Clearmont School was first on a two hour delay, and then the school closed for the day, with a make up day to be held on Friday, March 19. In other news, Arvada-Clearmont School will be holding a meeting at 5 p.m. on March 24, to inform the public that the A/C board will mothball the Arvada Elementary school for three years, starting with the 2020-21 school year. The meeting will be held in the multi-purpose room at A/C School. The decision was made due to the fact that there were no students that would be attending the school. By mothballing the school, the board has to option to reopen the school should there be enough students to merit having a school in Arvada.

A/C School Board Discusses Various Topics – Sheridan Media

Several topics were on the agenda at the regular meeting ofthe Arvada-Clearmont School board on March 10 at 7 p.m. Auzqui reported that Clearmont received a district accreditation report which gave Clearmont a 96%. “There are a few adjustments we could make to bring it to 100%, but I don’t think we have to do that. Most schools average 85%, so Clearmont is doing very well. Kudos to the board and the A/C School Staff.” The board watched video presentation from the K-12 Students of what is happening in the school. Mrs. Betz, activities director reported that there had been no cases of Covid during the basketball season. She also reported that FFA member Tamica Smith qualified for state. She told the board that there are three high school athletes and eight junior high athletes are going out for track this year. The board voted to hire Tim Rowe as track coach.
