Kalmar, who is succeeded at the Oregon Symphony by David Danzmayr, was a popular director and the 2020-2021 season was supposed to be his big send-off.
“In the 2020-21 season, we tell the story of Carlos and the Oregon Symphony,” Showalter said in a statement at the time. “Over the course of the year, Carlos will bring you music that moves him and us.”
