There were 22 parts of Enfield and 26 regions of Haringey with fewer than three cases of the virus in the seven days to March 10, according to the latest official data. That compares to 15 parts of Enfield and 23 parts of Haringey with near-zero cases in the seven days to March 3. The latest figures show the infection rate fell by 27 per cent in Enfield, to 27 new Covid cases per 100,000 people, but remained unchanged at 29 new cases per 100,000 people in Haringey.

The infection rates in both boroughs are significantly below the UK average and lower than those in most other local authorities in London. It came as Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled a roadmap out of lockdown in England, which could see all restrictions lifted from June 21. Enfield, which had one of the highest rates in the country at the beginning of January, saw just 72 new cases of the virus per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 17 – a 41 per cent drop compared to the previous week.
