Video: Arnold Allen plans on sending message to top-5 with win over Sodiq Yusuff at UFC Vegas 23

After nearly 15 months on the sidelines, Arnold Allen is ready to pick up right where he left off in the UFC’s featherweight division. Allen will face current surging top-15 contender Sodiq Yusuff on Saturday in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 23 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The 145-pound matchup airs on ABC. “Almighty” enters the contest on an impressive nine-fight winning streak, which includes a perfect 7-0 start to his UFC career, which is currently the second longest promotional winning streak in the featherweight division behind champion Alexander Volkanovski. Allen was slated to face Josh Emmett in his most recent appearance in January 2020 before an injury to Emmett led to Nik Lentz stepping in. Allen won the bout via unanimous decision.

The headliner comes in the middleweight division, as Marvin Vettori takes on Kevin Holland in a five-rounder. Originally, Vettori was supposed to face Darren Till but TIll withdrew due to injury, so Holland is fighting for the second time in three weeks. Hopefully this is much better than his performance against Derek Brunson.

UFC Vegas 23 predictions

MMA Fighting Share this story Let’s try this again, shall we, Mr. Holland? In his first UFC main event just three weeks ago, Kevin Holland left a lot of his supporters feeling flat as he was out-wrestled and out-worked by the more experienced Derek Brunson. It was a humbling lesson for the exciting middleweight, who went 5-0 in 2020, but spent most of his first fight of 2021 talking and struggling to get off of his back as opposed to getting to show why he’s one of the promotion’s breakout stars. He goes from one top contender to another, stepping in on short-notice for an injured Darren Till to face Marvin Vettori. Vettori had a strong 2020 campaign as well, competing just twice, but scoring a submission win over the dangerous Karl Roberson and then earning a dominant decision over Jack Hermansson. Holland and and Vettori have long had mutual animosity, so this matchup is as personal as the originally scheduled UFC Vegas 23 headliner.
